We obviously know Hinduism as practised today is polytheistic. The main core though is that the acknowledge that the Ultimate God is pantheistic, and is genderless and formless, and they look up to the various deities as being the various aspects of God, in male or female version, and each of whom performs a specific role to aid human beings.
But then these deities, called Krishna, Shiva, Ganesh, Lakshmi, Kali, Durga, etc, are they for real? I know its quite a deep question, since there are so many sincere Hindu followers who keep shrines in their homes and devoutly take care of them everyday, in order to receive their blessings, guidance and protection, and worship the sculptures of particular goddesses/gods. But then are these particular deities for real, or their aspect of Holy Spirit real, and do they actually assist the faithful followers? Or is it that when they call upon a particular deity for help, such as Saraswati for knowledge, etc, they are actually calling upon the Universal Spirit for that help?
Are these deities Hindu peoples' way of connecting with the otherwise difficult version of God, or do they truly believe in such particular deities to actually exist?
Or is it all a mythology for people because understanding the Divine has been too difficult for them?
It also makes me suspicious that all of these bigger versions of deities are human-like. Or do they only assume human looks for the benefit of people on earth, and elsewhere they assume other looks? Or are they deities only responsible for the management of planet earth? Provided they are not all mythological.
Peace.
