This thread is PART 2 or the continuation of the Open questions about the human condition thread, in my point of vision.
Now that we tackled some of the key ideas and key misconception about God and our purpose in earth, I'd like to discuss more the potential of each individual, the HOWs, the earth experiment vs the development. Maybe I'm getting the wrong idea from you Immanuel regarding this world, I'm getting a little bit of a nihilistic and a cynical view, to stick with few, not to aim for better things etc...correct me if I'm wrong.
Now obviously the development of ourselves is made through wordly tests and tasks, does it mean that in order to successfully develop one will have to BE successful in this life ? I think I read you, Immanuel, saying something against seeking wordly success.
And this is the problematic.
Isn't the development of our self and the "doing good in life" come hand in hand ? Which means the practical, hands on experience of developing oneself is through doing your best at what motivates you in life ? Otherwise, if you have no interest in life, you become a passive nihilist.
Now for the sake of this discussion, I'm bringing the thesis of the following video, please listen to it. It's a 20min video. Take your time to grasp it.
Some of the key points:
*Things that manifest themselves as the most meaningful are the most real things in relation to your reality.
*The direction of which one should develop is of the one of a competent adult, by closing in and narrowing your path toward a particular way of being. Pursuing an interest in life.
*An example among many, finding a "good"(according to us) job: This idea may appear to many as a limitation, however, according to the speaker, it has a role in shaping, sharpening, and narrowing our path to building our reality.
*Being a good person is beyond all life goals. As it keeps you from being corrupted.
*If you don't have the attachment to some goal or an interest in life, you are likely to adopt some sort of pathological belief system.
*At 17:05 and beyond, the speaker hints to "something that is beyond you", of the non-objective world, something that needs our attention to bear our limitations and our imminent death. Something that has been neglected and lost in our cultures.
*As you pursue the things that guide your interest, more knowledge is acquired, we then build ourselves along the way.
The speaker finally ends with his advice:
Now if you are confused of what is this about, my ultimate question is:
TO WHAT EXTENT DO WE USE THIS LIFE ? DO WE LIVE AS NIHILISTIC ? LIVE WITH LESS? AIM FOR NOTHING ? OR DO WE FOLLOW OUR INTEREST, THE THINGS THAT SHINE FORTH, THAT MAKES US STUDY SUCH THING OR SUCH THING, AND SUBSEQUENTLY MAKES US DO THIS OR THIS JOB, AND SUBSEQUENTLY MAKE US DECIDE OR NOT TO HAVE A FAMILY ? Isn't a bad student, or a bad employee, or a bad father the result of a bad individual, who has shaped a bad reality around him ?
Then the Shaping of our reality, and the development of our individual, come hand in hand, and they practically come through life challenges.
My take on this is that we need to seek to do our best in what we deem to be "INTERESTING" to us, while remaining not corrupted by the excess, the overlooking of things, the instinct's interference with our sound judgement etc. In order to "win the game" one has to "play the game" and win. And not seek passivism, nihilism, cynicism, to live alone in a cavern, and spend time meditating, like a buddhist monk.
I apologize if the thread is messy and confusing but it did take me a while to write.

"Follow what you're interested in, it will take you through adversity, and then through it, it will transform you from a citizen into an individual, and then the doors will open again, and at that point you're strong enough to have your life, and at that point you're strong enough not to fall prey to pathological belief systems"
